Monument for Nothing

(Out of Print)

By Makato Aida

Glancing through this monograph, in which works have been arbitrarily grouped by color, one is aware of the difficulties inherent in organizing the work of Makoto Aida. A mid-career retrospective of the artist's work covering the past twenty years, this publication takes on the difficult task of reconciling an oeuvre this is defined by seemingly contradictory impulses. Given the multiplicity of styles the artist employs and the themes he addresses, this monograph asks the question: What is the "true color" of Aida's work?
