Course Description

This advanced multimedia workshop examines the integration of documentary reporting, social-historical context, and participatory media in an effort to increase cross-cultural accessibility. As we look for ways to create layered content that links the issues we examine in our reporting back to their roots in the culture at large, we explore the stereotypes that traditional documentaries often perpetuate, our responsibility to the communities we document, and community engagement as a force that drives content. We use still photographs, video, audio, texts, and all forms of ephemera to assemble a landscape of context that expands the human and democratic scope of what we call social issues. prerequisite: Photo II/III, DSLR Video For Photographers, Multimedia Storytelling or portfolio review New
