Course Description

What is the photographer`s role as artist, documentarian, and humanist? Photographs might not change the world, but they can influence change. Photographs educate, inspire, speak truths, give voice, and enable others to see what they might not otherwise witness or experience. This workshop examines photographic essays, books, films, multimedia presentations, and exhibitions that have raised awareness and have been catalysts for social change. Students learn how to find project support, research and write proposals, make contacts, gain access to a subject, and make photographs that inspire social awareness. Students should be ready to begin a project or deepen their involvement in an existing one. Guests speakers include artists, photographers, educators, and editors. PREREQUISITE: Photo II or portfolio review
