Course Description

This workshop is designed to give students direct feedback on their own photographs, while also discussing aspects of documentary and portrait photography in relation to the instructor's works, many of which have become landmarks in the field of documentary photography. Mary Ellen Mark critiques each student's portfolio in a group setting, offering advice on how to continue a project and improve technique, among many other topics. She also discusses important aspects of her work and method, including equipment, organization of her studio, and preparing for shoots.
Prerequisite: Photo III or portfolio review
