Course Description

In this hands-on workshop, students learn the 19th-century technique of making hand-poured glass-plate negatives and positives (ambrotypes). Using a wet-plate camera with original antique brass lenses, students work in small groups to create instantaneous, unique, and stunning photographs. As part of the process, students review the work of historical photographers such as Carleton Watkins and Julia Margaret Cameron, as well as contemporary practitioners. All materials are supplied. The workshop is held in the instructor`s studio in downtown Brooklyn. PREREQUISITE: Photo I or portfolio review
